Cayenne Pepper Salve
by Toni
Cayenne Pepper is probably one of the most popular and hottest spices in the world, and is truly a remarkable spice with many health benefits, but for the purpose of this writing, I will focus on my home made Cayenne Pepper Salve and pain relief.
This beautiful colored Cayenne pepper is a member of the Capsicum genus, Cayenne is well known the world over for easing pain, acute and chronic, from sore and tired muscles, joint pain, sciatica pain, back ache and back pain, arthritis, bruises, tendonitis, closed wounds and so forth, and even nerve pain associated with diabetic neuropathy.
When Cayenne Pepper Salve is massaged into an area of pain on the body, one will most likely feel a burning sensation, or heat in the area where applied. This is quite normal, even on closed skin. The heat a person feels is caused by the Cayenne Pepper constituent capsaicin, and can vary among the various species. In other words, the more capsaicin the Cayenne Pepper has, the more heat the pepper will give.
Cayenne Pepper is known to reduce pain by working on the central nervous system in conjunction with a “Substance P”, a neuro -transmitter located in the spinal cord and brain related to the inflammatory process that causes pain, studies have shown. When applying Cayenne Pepper Salve to the area where you have pain; for instance your back, the capsaicin in the Cayenne Pepper will transmit a signal to the “Substance P” to help block or reduce the pain you feel. This is an amazing phenomenon!!
As shown in the photo, my home made Cayenne Pepper Salve, made with pure red/orange Cayenne Pepper Powder, organic extra virgin Olive Oil, and natural Beeswax takes on the brilliant reddish- orange color of the Cayenne Pepper Powder.
As with any chronic pain, such as arthritis, or back ache, there is no “quick fix” as it may take up to two weeks or more before you will notice results so it is important to use your Cayenne Pepper Salve on a daily basis to reduce the chronic pain. As Cayenne Pepper will burn, it is imperative that you wear gloves when applying and be careful so as not to get any in your eyes or mucous membranes, and be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after applying to your source of pain.
