With the news that Antibiotic Resistance Could Bring End Of Modern Medicine due to the overuse of antibiotics, researchers are scrambling to look for something else that will be able to ward off simple bacterial infections to highly resistant pathogens.
The good news is there is more good news about Coconut Oil. In an article published by The Weston A Price Foundation, and written by Mary G. Enig, Phd. Ms. Enig writes:
“This problem has led to interest in researching the use of natural products to enhance the treatment of infectious disease, such as coconut oil and other oils rich in lauric acid as well as herbal remedies like originum oil, substances traditionally recognized for decades for their healing properties. While there have been many testimonies–so-called “anecdotes”–about the effectiveness of such natural treatments, until recently no published studies were available to doctors that would allow them to justify their use of these protocols.”
Fortunately coconut oil and other lauric oils, as well as oregano oil, have recently been the object of study in the Georgetown University laboratory of Dr. Harry Preuss in the United States and this research has resulted in several published peer reviewed papers appearing in toxicology journals in 2005.”
Further, Coconut Oil.com writes about this good news:
“The antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties of the medium chain fatty acids/triglycerides (MCTs) found in coconut oil have been known to researchers since the 1960s. Research has shown that microorganisms that are inactivated include bacteria, yeast, fungi, and enveloped viruses. Much of this research is highlighted in the writings of Dr. Mary Enig Ph.D, and can be found at the above link.
Lauric acid is the most predominant MCT found in coconut oil. Regarding lauric acid, Mary Enig Ph.D writes:
“Lauric acid is a medium chain fatty acid, which has the additional beneficial function of being formed into monolaurin in the human or animal body. Monolaurin is the antiviral, antibacterial, and antiprotozoal monoglyceride used by the human or animal to destroy lipid-coated viruses such as HIV, herpes, cytomegalovirus, influenza, various pathogenic bacteria, including listeria monocytogenes and helicobacter pylori, and protozoa such as giardia lamblia. Some studies have also shown some antimicrobial effects of the free lauric acid.1″
“Lauric acid is also prominent in the saturated fat of human breast milk, giving vital immune building properties to a child’s first stage of life. Outside of human breast milk, nature’s most abundant source of lauric acid is coconut oil.”
Since 60% of what you put on your skin is absorbed into your body through your skin cells, it just makes good since to use organic coconut oil products on your skin, and not your over the counter, petro chemical, and hydrocarbon products that are refined from crude oil.
Here at ToniOrganics, I use organic Coconut Oil in abundance in all of my skin nourishing products, such as my organic face cream, Clouds of Silk, my Hard Lotion Bars, and my Shea Body Butter, and in all of my handcrafted organic body soaps.
Many people in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries, and even doctors push refined mineral oils and petroleum refined products and will tell you they are safe because they are cheap, do not produce any odor and do not oxidize. But the controversy over these products still exists. If, in fact mineral oils and petroleum refined products are safe, then why the controversy?
With the advent of much safer, “natural to your skin plant oils,” obviously, to me it just makes better sense to use a proven safe product which has shown to be effective through research done by reputable scientific data such as what I have presented to you in the article rather than spread cheap refined mineral oils and refined petroleum products on your body just because it is endorsed by cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries, and sadly, some doctors “in the industry.”
